Camden Falls Gallery Announcement

Great news! Since my last post I have joined The Camden Falls Gallery in Camden ME www.camdenfallsgallery.com/ I just delivered work this past Tuesday and would like to thank the staff there for making me feel very welcome into their family of artists(Thank you).
I will be joining two other galleries as the season gets rolling but I will announce those as they happen.
One other thing I would like to point out is a link that I have recently added to the side of this blog, that link is labeled "Amateur Lense". This link is my wife Raquele's new blog, its only one post deep but I think you will like it. check it!
This painting is of a couple of a small chunk of our yard, it looks like two Dandelions but there is actually 3 see if you can spot it... :)

No Title

This piece is from the morning of May 2nd, I got a few done that day in Bristol but I would say this is the pick of the litter. not alot to ramble about today so here is a Quote: "Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I see before me, I make more arbitrary use of colour to express myself more forcefully ... To express the love of two lovers by the marriage of two complementary colours ... To express the thought of a brow by the radiance of a light tone against a dark background. To express hope by some star. Someone's passion by the radiance of the setting sun."Vincent van Gogh, 1888.

Modern Healthcare..?.

This past week my wife was a bit sick and this is a painting including the stuffy head, cough, sore throat, achy whatever, sleep medicine. It helped alot the first night but Raquele can't stand the taste so she decided the next night to tough it out and not take any. (shes OK now :) ) I have always enjoyed the color of this stuff when the light shines through it, and wish there was strong light to show off the color. They probably use the same pigments some of us use in our paints to color this stuff??? "NyQuinacridone " who knows..?. 7-UP at Cape Cod

This a sketch from this past Thursday in Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod. I travelled down to meet up with some of the "Port Clyde 12,(13, ..?.) and hopefully get to paint some while there. I was so stoked to paint I did this one while waiting to meet up with them. This train bridge is one that I have loved as far back as I can remember, (I grew up going to Cape Cod) and didn't even mind that the painting didn't work out so good.
When I met up with the group at the Addison Art Gallery ( http://adisonart.com/paintapalooza.html ) I was pretty overwhelmed at first with all the great paintings and meeting the painters that made them. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely a pleasure to be around. For those who were there reading this Thank you all, and there is a home in Maine you are always welcome in, and If Colin's not home you can come over here. (HA)

Doot Doot Doot, painting out my back door.

This one is literally down the stairs from my home and looking left. The sun doesn't get to high this time of year here (I don't know how painters north of me deal with this) and this is was done around noon time with these crazy long shadows. There aren't to many places I can find to go with (now) 12"-18" of snow and the sides of the roads are covered with 3ft snow banks. So for the immediate future I'm roaming the yard. Quote:"To be an artist is just the same thing as to be a whore, as far as dependence on the whims and fancies of individuals is concerned" Dante Gabriel Rossetti 1828-1882. (he gives a great reason to call oneself a Painter instead of "an Artist")

Empty Lot

This peice was from the other day when my view was blocked(see 4x4 lobster boat) and I didn't get to finish, I was gonna paint over this or maybe just put it away and look at it in a year or so and say" hey I remember this day" but....... I've decided that maybe where it ended isn't a bad place, and It has grown on me. Let me know what you think.?. Right now the bay is peppered with a boat or two here and there but the weather and season has emptied this once packed nautical parking lot. I think the painting conveys that feeling of park anywhere there's room, and I might use as basis for a larger piece....?..I have recently been "tagged" by Frank Gardner (thanks Frank) (if your gonna be tagged be tagged by the best) and I am currently preparing my tag assault on the blog world, its coming soon......Quote:" You try to make an interesting journey between the cradle and the grave, you know?"Robert Duvall ..........two quote Tuesday! LOL, :" My favorite thing is to go where I've never been" Diane Arbus... that's a good one.. later

JONNY BRASIL

This piece is from Thursday's portrait group ,I didn't get to finish it and I think my interest due to the light and thirst became the coffee cup on the stool. Sorry John, but nobody can compete with light.(that sounds Cliche but nobody says that.? right?) Does this pc look like a scene from the old Batman show? I did attempt another but I scraped it and that is now oil primed for the next one.haha? On the topic of primed, this past week I received in the mail my sample order of Raymar panels. So far they are "Top shelf " in my book and my favorite so far is the canvas smooth. One other product I'm Mcloving are the brushes I've never heard of before ,the brand name is Connoisseur. They are a synthetic fiber and take a BEATING I do alot of scrubbing in my underpaintings and so far I turn flats into filberts in a day or two. Ive had one of the two I have for three weeks now and its still sharp and flat. Hope everyone had a great & safe Halloween . please leave comments on paintings or discussion topics, thanks Dan
