It has a been a bit since my last post as I have been pretty sick. I won't go into details but it was bad, now its gone, (I Hope!) and thats Good. The new exhibit at Portland Museum of Art is of a Local Painter, Lynne Drexler (by local I mean Maine) I wont go into her whole story, that's for you to find. But I will tell you what besides her amazing colorful work inspired me, well after she past away in 1999 the house was emptied of her paintings to be cataloged and there were hundreds of large paintings, and has taken people years just to go through them all. Ms Drexler did this for herself and with no intention of showing. Don't get me wrong I'm pretty sure if someone walked up to her little house on Monhegan with hundreds of thousands she might have worked something out ..?. This is a self-portrait from this past month, that I had no plans of sharing with anyone that didn't happen to walk into my studio before it dried. This is not something I would normally consider finished but maybe that's a good thing. If you noticed the beard in the painting (its pretty hard to make out, I know) I think if you live here in the winter, the beard is a must. Quote "Tell the truth and run." Yugoslavian proverb. leave a comment and let me know what you think about any of this even about beards and winter..?.

I love this one: the color, abstraction, design, brushwork! What's left?
I like the vagueness of it, its like "Dan Corey, Maine Man of Mystery!" XD
The wide brushwork looks really good, its something I've been afraid to try in the past out of fear that I'll just end up with something that doesn't look like anything, but yours looks like you. :)
Canada is also a Winter Beards Required area, there's a lot of fuzzy guys out and about lately lol. We gals just have to wrap scarves up around our whole head!
This is pretty abstract for me but your warm response to this is definetely encouraging, Thank you, Dan
Thanks Allison, I think the next million dollar Idea is a scarf with different beards printed on it and you could fold it to the one you like.. :)>
I like the way the colors all fall into place.
Winter is not that bad, if it only lasted a month.
Never had a full beard, I get rid of it around the scratchy stage.
Thanks Frank, this one is a bit of a experiment. I didn't know scratchy was just a stage..?. But it does help outside when the wind blows really cold, or at least thats what my imagination tells me. when its minus 10 not much really helps. :|>
good you are getting back to form...
a beard is a must in winter indeed,
i'd like to add my big hair too, chopped off in spring,so i can see again and people see mee
love your self portrait,it goes deep, hope you paint lots more,i enjoy it!
Thanks Rob, at the moment I am refusing all haircuts but the beard stays relatively trimmed :{>
You have a great sense of color in your work.I like how you did this self portrait..I'd say you are in there among the paint... beard and all! Good job!
Hi Dan, remember me? I won one of your paintings. Is it time to varnish it yet?
I like this self portrait very much. Wonderfully bold, impressionistic strokes. I can't believe you weren't going to share it!
About that Yugoslavian proverb. My biological father never said that one, but it's funny.
Hi Greg, Thank you I was really in a mood when I painted this and had alot of fun with the paint. In the future I hope to be able to paint like this with just a bit more control.
Hey Silvina, I would say yes on the varnish, by now its probably pretty uneven? hope its not too bad. Thank you for the kind words on this piece, I probably have to let go a bit on my choices to share. As for the quote, I don't really like that it was credited to a certain nationality but where I got it, it was. I guess this quote would take on a bit of humor if I put "Anonymous" . take care, Dan
Okay, I'll varnish and frame it soon then. Thanks.
This is a great portrait. My husband always has a beard and longer hair in winter and just a moustasche and almost shaved head in the summer.
Thanks Jo, I think thats a good program for managing the hot and cold weather.
Dude, Sweet painting!
K-mart in the heezy, Thanks Man!
