Realities

So here is that finished piece I promised. This piece will be the largest of eleven paintings I will be showing at Maine Art gallery's "Boat" show. The show opens this coming week in Kennebunk ME.
As the photo shows this day was absolutely perfect. The only part that was real tough was when a boat would pass by, that dock piece I was set up on would knock into the pier behind it. If you were not paying attention like say you were wrapped up in a painting you would lose your balance and it would snap you right out of focus. Fun.

Oh, the perils of plein air painting! Glad you hung on. This is FABULOUS! The water colors and overall values are just wonderful. Hope you have a great show!

The values in the water are beautiful.

wow Dan - what a great piece and where you are painting from looks really fun. I really like the composition - we all know how hard it is to pull of boats...good luck man.

I can only echo the other comments. A great piece. I am enjoying the subtle range of values in the shadows particularly those beneath the boat.

I also like to see the photograph of your set up, it looks complicated to me.

Hi Denise, thank you and thank you!

Thank you Reece!

Hi Pam, thank you.

Hey Chris, thank you! If you paint boats weekly they get a little bit easier. (very little bit)

Hi Mick, thank you. That area in the boat shadow reflection is a subtle change that I'm glad you picked up on. I was happy to get it pretty close to right.
The set up isnt too complicated. Easier is not usually better. The easel company if your interested is called "Take it Easel" and the easel is traditionally called a Gloucester Easel. Lots of history in it, worth looking into for sure.
