Cape Elizabeth Preview

Here is a sneak peak preview for my loyal blog-ites of the 24 x 30 I just painted for the Cape Elizabeth Paint for Preservation. The area is so beautiful a must see for anyone in the area. This is Pond Cove.

This is fabulous! You do rocks so well and I have artist envy haha! I have been taking some photos of rocks in this area (the South) and will have to do some practice. Love the colors too in this one.

Dan, great simplification in such a large piece! I hope you bring some large canvases out to Wisconsin!

Hi Denise, thank you! You are too kind! If you wanna try what I did to get a little better at rocks. Work in black and white for a while. It was very humbling experience for me (and still is!) Anyway the massing of large areas becomes simpler and you can really focus on the average value of the mass and what values pop out of it like the light bouncing of the rocks as opposed to the light just illuminating the rock. Also keeping the values relative to the mass will help not to break up the big statement of the value pattern of your piece. Hope that made sense..?. Let me know.

Hi Mick, thank you!

Hi Rolina, yes it was beautiful!! I wish I had posted some pics of the area. Maybe in the future I will do a top ten painting spots in Maine post. If I do this place will be in it.

hey Kyle, thanks a lot! I hope to also.

Thank you Rahina!!

Hi all, I also should let you know that this piece in auction ended up being the highest selling piece and and was above my gallery price for this size. I was completely and still am completely blown away by this and am still in disbelief. Thank you !

Dan--really nice work. The rocks there are a true test of rock painting. Nice soft AM colors and you made the most of the low tide. Visit sometime and I'll show you the "spots."

I had hoped to introduce myself, but we had to leave before the auction got rolling. Your piece was my favorite of the bunch! Way to go!
