P Town and Uncle Smokey

So this past week (OK two) have been pretty busy. I had a friend/Artist (Kyle Martin) from Wisconsin come up to Maine for some painting. We had a blast. You can see more of his great work by clicking on his name on the right hand side of the screen.

Then I shot down to P Town to get in some painting with Paul Shulenburg, Marc Hansen, Peter Kalill, Frank Gardener, Jeff Bonasia, Logan Hagege and Jerome Greene. Jerome is the subject of this portrait. I painted "Uncle Smokey"(12x10) while we were all on the beach, in the heart of P Town. The other piece "Lost Cause" is a 20x24 I started this particular day with.

Quote: "An artist must recognize, when he is reasoning, that his picture is an artifice; but when he is painting, he should feel that he has copied nature. And even when he departs from nature, he must do it with the conviction that it is only to interpret her more fully." Matisse in his Notes of a Painter, 1908.

Both are wonderful Dan! I've followed Kyle paintings for a while now. His style matches up to your perfectly. Bet you guys had a blast.

I'm sure it was fun painting with all the guys again also.

Hey Dan, Thanks again for taking the time to drive down to the Cape. You were doing some real nice painting. You even wiped off a few that I thought were pretty good.
My monitor stinks, but these images don't do justice to your color in the originals. Maybe you should up the saturation about 6-8 points before posting on blogger. I find that they get washed out a bit in the upload and always look duller than what I thought I was posting.
How did the 20x24 at Arey's Pond come out?

More juice from Dan, you're on a real roll producing the goods consistently.

Thanks Bill, yes fun was had. Let me know if you're ever up this way, we will get some painting in.

Hey Frank, no. Thank you for flying up to the Cape! I should probably buy a "Photoshop" to help these images out. At least I finally got (most of) the fuzziness out of the photos. The Arey's Pond worked out pretty good, I just pulled out about 100 of the black fly thingys and signed it.

Thank you Mick, trying.
