Here is a video of a larger studio piece(36x48") that i have done from a smaller sketch. This snowman was from our early for the season snowstorm recently. The bright green grass, fall leaves and snow is a great color combo that i havent had many chances to see. the warmer weather only gave this snowman a a few days but i bet he will be back one day.... Turn up the volume!!
Oh yeah, if the music starts getting to you, just turn it down. I couldnt edit the video short enough or to match the music perfectly. I could really use good video editor.

Great fun but one complaint. I'm now wandering the house humming 'Frosty the Snowman', it could become unsociable.
Really enjoyable demo. Like the close up shot at the end that shows the variation in colours and the little dab of colour on the end of twig. Did you use your traditional medium when doing this?
Hey Mick, yeah the song does get stuck in your head.. I think I'm ahead of the department stores though, not Christmas yet.
I used my "Duck Sauce" medium for the beginning then no medium as I work on it. I will post the finished piece when it's done. Still picking away here and there on it.
For everyone who doesnt know "Duck Sauce" medium. It's just 1 part Liquin, one part oderless thinner like Gamsol. I call it that because it looks just like the duck sauce you get at most Chinese food restaurants. This lets me feel like I'm working with no medium yet my paint won't crumble away prematurely. This also helps drying time some.
That was great Dan - the painting is full of life and color and its great to see your process start to finish.
What size brush are you using in the beginning? This got me inthe xmas spirit right away.
Thank you, Dan. That was fun to watch and a great demo. I love the painting and the colors. Hope you'll make more videos.
Hey Chris, thank you!! The brush is a Robert Simmons Signet size 22 broad. I'm guessing you meant the massing in not the drawing brush.
Hey Celene, thank you! Yes I wouldn't mind doing a few more. Maybe even some normal speed with commentary..?.
Hi Nancy, thank you! If you step far enough back a 36x48 is as simple as a 6x8". I say go for it.
The video is absolutely delightful! The snowman is awesome... the lighting incredible! You captured late autumn, early snow perfectly. I've been bah humbugging the Christmas music on local radio, but you've turned me around!
Great demo, Dan. Really enjoying watching how you developed the painting and the color palette is wonderful. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you Bridget, that is great to hear! Glad I could help fight the bah humbugs.
Thank you Kelley! I plan to do more soon.
Was this video shot at normal speed with 7 - Five Hour Energy drinks and 4 Red Bulls in your system? I'm gonna give this a try! BiG BruShes.....Big PaiNteR....cool little video! I just did a video not too long ago of myself.....unfortunately, as it turned out, the back of my big ol head was the main attraction. who knew camera position was ThAt important.
He Jim, thank you! Yeah finding the camera angle took a little longer then I expected. If I could buy one piece of equipment for this, it would be a camera boom. This looks just like a microphone boom just with a camera holding attachment.
Have a good and safe trip to Central America!
Dear Dan, I really like your work very much, unfortunately it is not possible to view your videos, because of the music. The law in Germany does not allow to use commercial music for free. If you do so, you have to pay an amount to the artist. But how do they know if you have payed or not??? They just not allow to view a video by suspicion? I have to clear up this circumstance...
My best regards, Carola
Hi Carola, sorry to hear that... I paid to for the song in the video I hope you find a way for it to work. Thank you for the kind wors.
