I Get By With a Little (More) Help From My Friends

OK this is a repeat photo but the difference should be easy to spot.....figure it out yet?.... This photo was taken by somebody that knows what they are doing instead of me! John Blamey from the Tidemark Gallery ( http://tidemarkgallery.com/ ) in Waldoboro offered to help me out with shooting my work, editing it and even burning it on a disk for me to send into the residency grant that I am applying for. Thank You John! I also received my recommendation letter from "CP" this week and its great! no initials, Thank You Colin!
This week also shows a well deserved weather turn around, the sun is showing up just about everyday, and is actually throwing a little warmth Maine's way. I have been working on some larger work in the studio from smaller studies done "en plein air" (that must be said with a bad french accent) and finding it a challenge to not make things too pretty and "keep it real". Hi Dan. I went back and looked at the previous pic of this painting. You did a good job, but wow! that new pic looks wonderful. Amazing what good friends will do.

Good luck on the grant and the show (next month?).

Thanks Bill, yeah I am sure I was a pain in the ass with this stuff and don't know how can pay them back yet, but I am looking. We talked before about those Classic Artist Oils and just wanted to let you know that I will be trying them soon and will share my opinion of them here and hopefully some work that includes them. Thanks for the info on the paint also.

Man, this is a beautiful painting. Again the radiant of light just doesn't escape you. Your color variations within the masses have so much energy. The photo is much better. :)
Im sure you painting are too big, but I now scan all of my paintings with a color strip which makes color correction easy for me in PS. :)

Thanks Christine, and yeah I feel almost too lucky when it comes to this and even if things don't happen for me with this grant, who could ask for more then friends that are there when you need them..?.

Hi Jeff, Thanks alot! now when you say "scan" do you mean like in a copy machine style, laying the painting down on the glass window ?? if so that sounds like a great way to get all the details of brushwork captured, yours look great so it must work.

Totally jealous of the clear photo, lol! my camera CAN do clear... on people. >.> It resists my attempts to clearly photograph my brush strokes though. Maybe one day I'll carry my favorites to Halifax and make my friend Magan take photos of them for me lol

The painting is like 10 times better with the clear photo, your colors are so nice, you do snow really really well. :)

Hi Allison, I jealous to! I can't make my own photos clear, ha, one thing that has made a bit of a difference is useing the tripod and setting the timer so my heartbeat doesn't shake the camera..?. and thank you for the kind words, I sure have had enough snow for practice, haha.

Hi Mick, Thanks, yeah I should have John sign a exclusive contract, he makes my work look better then I can, by far! By the way I'm really digging your new blog.

Hey, Dan, How's it going? It's Frank's fault that I've been away from blogging for many weeks - I was so sad that I'd check out his blog and find no posts that I quit looking. And, somehow, I don't get the email notifications about postings on blogs I "follow" so I only stopped in, today, and found that he'd started up again a week or so ago.
Anyway, I should've stopped by to say HI to YOU at least....so sorry.
And, I don't have tine to comment on all your MANY posts since I went away.....but I will. I Like this painting a lot - so I chose to start here. I like the colors in the snow....the shadows and the warm spots. And, I like that the snow is the bulk of the painting. Snow kinda takes over in our northern latitudes.....I appreciated the point being made.
Hope you're well - hey - wasn't I supposed to get some email notification of some show you were in? I never got one. Hope it went well - or maybe it's still coming up....
Anyway, hope you're well and that the Rembrandt fairy is being good to you.

Hey Solveg, Thanks and its good to hear from you. The email was for a mailing address to receive a printed mailer, sorry I have been nuts busy and should have emailed you back with this bit of info..?. the good news is the show has not arrived yet and if you want you can e mail me a mailing address and I can still send one out to you, the "mass" mailing is already happening. As for receiving emails of new post, hhmmmm??? I think if you sign to follow the blog you will receive an email notification, or just on your blog..?. i think.
